Fantasy Football Heroes and Villains: Rookies Shine and Disappoint, Key Players to Watch

HEHEHEY!!! Welcome back to the Fantasy Football Heroes and Villains column.

Third week of the season and we are already beginning to see the participation of some rookies with high expectations prior to the Fantasy drafts, getting some of these rookies will help us give depth to our team in the next two weeks, something crucial for reach the rest weeks in a better way.

This analysis can help you have better criteria to line up players or look for offers from players with good potential. And what you will never see is a player as a villain because he had an injury problem in the game.

HEROES

JUSTIN “PERCY JACKSON” HERBERT (QB1, 29.3 PF)

Herbert’s vintage performance returns, although a heavy tribute is paid with the loss of Mike Williams for the rest of the season. The Chargers’ offense has looked electric since the beginning of the campaign and it was time for a game with more than 400 yards and 3 TDs from their QB. The way the offense is looking, Herbert should finish the season with more fantasy points than Burrow and Fields, QBs who went ahead of him in fantasy drafts. Palmer and Johnston should fill the void left by Williams, and when Ekeler returns, Herbert will have less trouble generating fantasy points.

DE´VONE ACHANE Y RAHEEM MOSTERT. “AQUAMAN Y AQUALAD” (RB1 Y RB2, 51.3 Y 45.2 PF)

This week if you only fielded Dolphins on your team you could end up with over 200 fantasy points. “Miami” Mike’s work is a marvel for Fantasy Football and the NFL. In a game where the two RBS together ran for 285 yards, had 11 targets, 11 receptions, 90 yards through the air and 8, yes 8 TDs, both alone carried your team on their shoulders. The Dolphins won’t score 70 points often, but you definitely want elements of this offense, especially the RBs. Achane should be the top option if he is available on waivers.

ADAM THIELEN “DORIAN GRAY” (WR3, 31.5 PF)

I was one of Thielen’s main defectors this season, I didn’t believe in Young’s talent and I didn’t like what I saw from Thielen in Minnesota in 2022. But the volume he is having, and how they are using him, makes me rectify my opinion. 14 targets for 11 receptions, 145 yards and 1 TD, are excellent. The best thing is that he averages over 13 yards per reception. With Dalton on the court his ceiling is higher, but when he returns Young can be a very viable FLEX for Fantasy.

SAM LAPORTA “THE YOUNG FELINE” (TE1, 22.4 PF)

11 targets, 8 receptions for 84 and 1 TD give you a chance to finish above Kelce this week. The best thing about Laporta is the trust that Geoff and Campbell have in him. So far this season he is the TE2 in targets, receptions, and the TE1 in passing yards. So far the best TE value in the draft. We’ll see the usage of him when Jameson Williams returns, but he wouldn’t be too worried and he’s inalienable every week.

VILLAINS

JUSTIN FIELDS “THE INTOXICATED BEAR” (QB22, 10.6 PF)

The entire situation with the Bears is worrying. Fields enters Fantasy Football limbo, where you can’t line him up, he has no trade value and you can’t throw him into free agency because of his potential. He is the QB22 so far this season, they are not exploiting his attributes, and he has not progressed as a passer, which worries his future on the team. Fields belongs on your bench until you start exploiting his strengths, as we saw last year.

JOSHUA “THE EXCEPTION” KELLEY (RB58, 2.7 PF)

Kelley’s poor performance without Ekeler in Week 2 was attributed to the Titans’ defense. But this week against the Vikings, without Ekeler and with the volume, he had everything to be a hero and ended up being a villain. 11 carries, not inconsiderable, he got him for a paltry 12 yards, 1.1 yards per carry is pathetic. Kellen Moore will have to do something about this and a possible replacement may be on the horizon. Kelley is not an option to line up at this time.

“THE FRUSTRATION” DRAKE LONDON (WR68, 5.1 PF)

We were excited last week by London’s performance and we liked this week’s matchup against Detroit and a lot of projected points. The reality is that he is still the leader of targets and has a lot of talent, but at the same time he is in a “pedestrian” offense with an HC that is going to win on the ground or lose 20-6, as happened this Sunday. London is a WR with a lot of talent, but instability due to the offense he participates in, from my point of view a FLEX who can be a hero in some weeks and a villain in others, he has the upside.

DARREN WALLER “THE GIANT OF THE UNDERWORLD” (TE23, 5 PF)

This is more of a reminder not to despair with Waller, he faced the Niners, but the volume was there, 7 targets for only 3 receptions and 20 yards. Waller will have more favorable matchups, where that volume can leave him within the Top 3 in the position, he continues to be the Giants’ offensive spark plug and I don’t see anyone stealing that role from him.

If there was any hero or villain you would like to talk about or you think I forgot, write to me on Twitter @alpanseque and we’ll be happy to talk about it.

Thanks for reading and see you next week.
