Two gold medals, one silver and two bronze, all in the family. Dad Edoardo Sirto, 57 years old, and his sons Alessandro and Elisabetta, 23 and 22 years old, won them with the uniform of the Italian national kung fu team at the World Championships which took place in China. An amazing result, obtained thanks to a boundless passion for this ancient martial art, which in the Sirto house is above all a life discipline, to which a great deal of effort is dedicated.
The three Cesanese were part of the Italian delegation of Fiwuk, the Italian wushu kung fu federation, 22 athletes in all, who took part in the ninth edition of the World Kung fu Championship in Emeishan, in the Sichuan region. “We could have been many more, but not all of them were able to afford the travel expenses, which are at our expense”, explains Edoardo Sirto, who began practicing judo at the age of 5, then switching to kung fu when he was very young and continuing to keep alive the passion for this sport, subsequently passed on to the children. In the blue group also Gaetano Turbarolo, who trains in the same gym in Milan, of the Asd Hac Long Drago Nero.
With them there were more than 1,000 athletes from over 53 countries, to challenge each other in a discipline that includes various specialties, both with bare hands and with weapons. At the end of 5 days of competitions, the Sirto family brought to Brianza the 2 gold medals won in bare-handed combat by Edoardo and Elisabetta, Elisabetta’s silver in combat with halberd and 2 bronze medals by Edoardo and Alessandro in combat with halberd, to which is added the bronze medal of gym mate Gaetano Turchiarolo.
Father and sons compete in different categories: masters for Edoardo and seniors for Alessandro and Elisabetta. “They have been days of great emotions, especially for the younger kids, and which pay off for so many sacrifices – says Edoardo -. We train at least 5 days a week, sometimes even 6 or 7, depending on the preparation phase”.
