Famila Wuber Schio Triumphs in Heart-Pounding Match Against Dinamo Sassari

The 2023/24 season of Famila Wuber begins with a match forbidden to the faint of heart, outrunning a tough Dinamo Sassari who had the winning shot in the hands of Carangelo which failed to materialize at the end. For Schio it was a dark evening shooting from long range (4/21) and in general also from medium range with the wide players not very effective in the realization phase. Excellent performance, however, from Reisingerova who dominated the paint and finished with 18 points (8/12 shooting), 8 rebounds and 8 fouls suffered. However, the defensive intensity of the entire team is high and is working to find the best possible balance, waiting to include Parks and Juhasz in the squad. Tomorrow at 6pm the final with the winner of Virtus Segrafredo Bologna-Umana Reyer Venezia.

The first half. First half largely dominated by Dinamo Sassari thanks to several shooting errors by Schio and greater concreteness from the Sardinians led by Carangelo and Raca for the 10-15 after five minutes. Famila Wuber, in their blue away kit, finds new verve with the inclusion of Crippa and Bestagno who fight for all the dirty balls: the Ligurian pivot goes to the line twice to close the first period at 18-22. The beginning of the second quarter is the moment of greatest difficulty for the Scledo team: Carangelo and Raca score 21-27 (maximum advantage) with a technical foul on coach Dikaioulakos, who is not satisfied with the referees’ work. From here, however, the Orange team build their return with two certainties: defense and the presence of Reisingerova in the paint who becomes an attacking totem and allows them to close the first half ahead 32-29.

Heart-pounding finale. Schio continues to keep its head ahead with Crippa’s precious triple and points from Reisingerova and Sottana but, on a truly disastrous evening for long-range shooting for the Orange, despite an aggressive defence, Sassari manages to get back ahead with Carangelo. Little was scored in the third quarter and only with Hollingshed’s offensive ingenuity did Famila end the half ahead on Bestagno’s free throws: 46-44.

Shooting with such poor percentages from the arc, Sottana and her teammates continuously look for Reisingerova under the basket but the Dinamo defense adapts and denies the reception to the Czech pivot. Banco di Sardegna can thus continue to remain point for point and, even on the triple at the end of the 24″ by Guirantes, they do not get upset: they earn trips to the line and come back to 57-55. Schio has numerous opportunities to close the game in the last minute but nothing enters so Carangelo finds himself with the ball in his hands to send the game to extra time: he is unable to serve his teammates in the paint, he is forced to take the triple which goes out on the iron. Schio, breathes a sigh of relief and flies to the final.
