PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir conveyed two important things to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) related to implementation 2023 U-17 World Cup.

Jokowi summoned Erick to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Wednesday (20/9) morning. Erick came at 09.30 WIB. The four meta meeting lasted until 10.10 WIB.

Erick immediately revealed the contents of the conversation with Jokowi. He said he came to the palace to discuss the U-17 World Cup which will take place in Indonesia from 10 November to 2 December 2023.

“What I convey to the President is of course two things, one is the hope that the President can be present at the opening, namely on November 10, which will also be attended by the President of FIFA. [Gianni Infantino],” said Erick.

“Secondly, we also conveyed to the President the reasons why FIFA chose these cities [tuan rumah Piala Dunia U-17] “And of course there are targets that FIFA has asked us for from the committee, especially the target audience and so on,” he added.

Erick also stated that Jokowi’s input in the short meeting was related to the development of national football in line with the progress of the Indonesian National Team at various levels of Asian and world championships recently.

“And of course this is what he hopes for continuity rather than building a national team,” he said.

Erick also said that there was no political discussion in the meeting with Jokowi and at the same time straightened out the news that Jokowi had left his name as a running mate for Prabowo Subianto.

“The President has definitely positioned himself as a state leader who wants to ensure that our country becomes a developed country,” said Erick when asked about this issue.
