Emma Raducanu Determined to Bounce Back Despite Injuries and Setbacks in Tennis Career

Emma Raducanu is plagued by bad luck with injuries in her tennis career. The 2021 US Open winner still wants to attack again next year.

“I will be back next season,” Raducanu made clear in an interview with the “BBC”. In May, the British tennis hopeful underwent surgery on her wrists and ankle.

Raducanu emphasized that it was difficult to just watch the Grand Slam tournaments. “I tried to stay in my lane as much as possible and concentrate on my recovery,” said the 20-year-old, describing her last weeks and months.

Raducanu caused a stir in the 2021 tennis season. First she made it to the round of 16 at Wimbledon. At the following US Open, the right-hander sensationally stormed to win the title. Raducanu moved into the top 10 in the world rankings.

But after that, many setbacks followed. Raducanu was also dropped in the WTA rankings due to injuries, and as number 214 she is now listed outside the top 200 for the first time since spring 2021.

The crash also repeatedly provokes criticism. Raducanu explained to the “BBC” how she deals with it. “The fact that I’m still being talked about even though I don’t attend these events is just a compliment. Someone told me, ‘Be worried if you’re not being talked about,'” she said.

Raducanu wants to remain ambitious despite the turbulent times. Her “ultimate dream” is still to win Wimbledon one day. Raducanu first has to get fit again and then work on regaining her old strength – a rocky road for the tennis ace.
