At the US Open, Dominic Thiem had to give up in the second round

A few days after his 30th birthday, Dominic Thiem addressed his fans in a message on social media – and delivered “a small update”. Accordingly, the Lower Austrian is currently in Salzburg, where he underwent the announced “full body check” on Tuesday.

Background: Thiem has been struggling with severe abdominal pain for some time and had to give up against Ben Shelton in the second round of the US Open. Immediately afterwards, his brother and manager Moritz, who had initially made “a kind of gastritis” public as a diagnosis, announced extensive investigations.

Thiem is playing well in New York

These have now been carried out in Salzburg, explained Thiem. “I expect the results in the coming days and will keep you updated,” added the former world number three, who celebrated his first victory in a Grand Slam tournament in New York since the Australian Open in 2021.

Thiem would make his next appearance as planned at the Challenger tournament in Bad Waltersdorf (September 18th to 24th). By the end of the year, the 2020 US Open winner is threatened with a relapse in the world rankings, after a good end of the season last year – Thiem reached the semifinals in Gijon and Antwerp, among other things – but still has a few points to defend. Thiem is currently in 81st place in the ranking.
