Dominic Thiem set to return to the ATP tour despite ongoing treatment

Dominic Thiem will play on the ATP tour next week for the first time since his second-round appearance at the US Open on August 30th.

The 30-year-old from Lower Austria, currently number 80 in the world rankings, has his gastritis C so far under control that he can play at the ATP 250 tournament in Astana (KAZ). His brother and manager Moritz Thiem confirmed this on Saturday in response to an APA request.

Thiem ready despite ongoing treatment

“Dominic can play in Astana,” confirmed Moritz Thiem. However, the drug treatment is not yet over. “He’s still taking medication, but he’s doing well and he’s been training well.”

His second protégé, Austria’s number one Sebastian Ofner, had to retire injured the day before in the quarter-finals of the Challenger in Saint-Tropez.

“Ofner has a bit of a problem with his heel/back. Both go hand in hand,” said the manager. Ofner wanted to undergo a medical examination on Saturday.
