The defensive coordinator abruptly left the organization this week to “take care” of his health and family

Alan Alan Williams resigned as defensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears last week in part because of inappropriate activity, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Alan Williams was not involved in any criminal activity, sources told Schefter, however, the Bears’ human resources department was part of the process that culminated in his abrupt resignation last Wednesday.

A digital forensic search was conducted as part of Alan Williams’ resignation, according to sources, who added that such a process was part of the team’s standard operating procedure.

Alan Williams, 53, announced that he was “taking a step back to take care of my health and my family.” Both the Bears and Alan Williams’ attorney said the report in Chicago about police activity at the team facility was inaccurate.

“I appreciate the opportunity to work with the Chicago Bears, a historic NFL franchise with a rich history,” Alan Williams said in a statement. “I value the NFL shield and everything it represents and after taking some time to address my health, I plan to return and coach again.”

Bears head coach Matt Eberflus will continue to call the defensive plays in place of Alan Williams, who missed last Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to an undisclosed personal reason.

The Bears (0-2) visit the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday.
