Promoted SV Darmstadt 98 only have to do without their central defender for one game after the red card against Matej Maglica (24).

The DFB announced the penalty on Monday afternoon. Maglica was sent off with a red card on Sunday after a VAR intervention in the 49th minute for an alleged handball. Darmstadt then lost a 3-0 lead against Borussia Mönchengladbach and the game ended 3-3.

As Darmstadt announced in a press release, the DFB sports court decided in favor of a one-game ban because the DFB control committee’s criminal complaint had already admitted “doubts about the obviousness of the goal opportunity”. Otherwise Maglica would probably have had to be suspended for two games.

Kicker had already described “red and penalty” from referee Timo Gerach (kicker grade 2.5) as “very tough decisions, but still within discretion”. But yellow would have been just as acceptable.

The 24-year-old Croatian will therefore miss the upcoming encounter on Friday evening (8.30 p.m., LIVE! on kicker) with his home club VfB Stuttgart, which loaned him to Hesse before the season. SV Darmstadt 98 has already agreed to the verdict.
