Dalton to Start for Panthers Against Seahawks as Young Sidelined with Ankle Sprain

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Andy Dalton will start the Carolina Panthers against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday after rookie Bryce Young was ruled out with a sprained ankle.

Jake Luton will be Dalton’s deputy.

Head coach Frank Reich said he expected Young to be out for a week or two. This means that his status for the duel against the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth week of the calendar is uncertain.

Reich added that he remains “optimistic” to see Young face the Vikings following the improvement in his rehabilitation situation.

Young attended the team’s practice Friday and walked to the field without a walking boot on his ankle. He will accompany the team to Seattle.

The first player selected in the draft, Young ranks 31st in the NFL in efficiency ratio after two games. He completed 59.2% of his passes for 299 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also lost a ball on a fumble.

Reich expressed confidence in Dalton, calling him “one of the 32 best quarterbacks in the NFL.”

Dalton will make the 163rd start of his career. He has an overall record of 83-77-2 with the Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints.

He completed 244 touchdown passes and was the victim of 144 interceptions.

The Panthers rank last in the league in passing gains. However, the Seahawks defense is off to a rocky start. She ranks 31st in yards conceded, and 29th in points allowed.

Richardson au repos

Annoyed by a concussion, rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson will miss the meeting of the Indianapolis Colts with the Baltimore Ravens.

Gardney Minshew will thus get his first start in a Colts uniform.

According to ESPN, the team is confident that Richardson will be able to play in Week 4.
