Cuts to the FGR, CNDH and IFT are outlined in the 2024 budget – El Sol de México

The Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) and the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) register cuts in the draft Expenditure Budget of the Federation (PEF) 2024, contrary to other autonomous bodies who will receive more resources.

According to the 2024 Economic Package that was delivered yesterday to the Congress of the Union by the head of the Ministry of Finance, Rogelio Ramírez de la O, the FGR would have a cut of 528.8 million pesos compared to the budget it received in 2023 which was 19,862 million pesos, since it is expected to receive 19,333 million pesos for next year.

In the case of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), a cut of 162 million pesos is emerging, since the Treasury plans to grant it 1,722 million pesos, when last year it granted it 1,884 million pesos.

The Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) would have a cut of 80 million, according to the document, since it will receive 1,680 million pesos by 2024, when last year it received 1,741 million pesos.

In contrast, the National Electoral Institute (INE) is expected to receive a budget of 37,770 million pesos, that is, 3,569 million pesos more than what it requested in its preliminary project, however, since there will be elections next year in which the presidency and 20 thousand elected positions will be renewed, it is common for its budget to increase.

Last year the electoral referee received 21,190 million pesos, 4,400 million less than what he requested in his preliminary draft budget.

In the case of the National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (INAI), the budget that the Ministry of Finance proposes to give in the PEF 2024 is 1,168 million pesos, 51.1 million pesos more than In the previous fiscal year, 1,97 million pesos were approved.

The Legislative Branch is expected to grant 18,397 million pesos, while last year it received 16,760 million pesos, that is, there is an increase of 1,147.8 million pesos.

The discussion of the PEF 2024 will begin in the coming weeks in the Chamber of Deputies and although the project presented by the Ministry of Finance does not foresee a cut to the Judiciary, as it is expected to receive 84 thousand 792 million pesos, 3 thousand 533 million pesos more than in 2023, Morena deputies warned that they will scissor the budget of said Branch to redirect resources to social programs.
