Crisis Spanish Football Federation

The Royal Spanish Football Federation and the internationals called with Montse Tomé reached a kind of truce on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday that means that all of them, except Mapi León and Patri Guijarro, have agreed to continue concentrating for the matches against Sweden and Swiss. One of the agreements reached by the parties, with the mediation of the president of the Higher Sports Council, Victor Francoswas the “imminent” dismissal of several RFEF executives, whose names have not been revealed by the parties. And the first of them came this afternoon, in which the RFEF announced that it was “dispensing with the services” of Andreu Camps, general secretary until now.

“From this moment, and in this time of transition until the completion of the electoral process, its functions will be assumed by the director of the Presidential Cabinet, Elvira Andres, in the representative field as secretary of the governing and representative bodies of the Federation. Likewise, executive functions will be assumed Alfredo Olivarescurrent Director of Competitions”, reads the statement made public by the RFEF.

The Federation highlights in its statement that “the decision has been made in accordance with article 39.2 of the Statutes of the RFEF, which indicates: ‘The appointment of the Secretary General will be optional for the President of the RFEF who, if he does not make such appointment, “He will be responsible for his own functions, and may delegate to the people he deems appropriate.”

A striking reference, since the RFEF currently lacks a president, after the resignation of Rubiales, given that Pedro Rocha serves as president of the managing commission, according to what the Federation itself refers to him in its communications in recent days.

Camps is the first to fall after the meeting with the players and the CSD in which the former accepted a truce, with the majority of them continuing in the concentration in Oliva (Valencia). But there will be more in the coming days.

As this newspaper reported, the dismissal of Camps was a request from the majority of territorial barons of the RFEF since the meeting after Rubiales’ suspension by FIFA, three weeks ago. However, Rocha fiercely resisted handing over his head until the intervention of the CSD and the embarrassment of the betrayal of the world champions calling him up left him with no other solution.
