Everything points to the fact that Vladimír Růžička will indeed take over Slovan Bratislava. The second league team Ústí nad Labem, which Růžička led until now, has already announced the name of his successor – Jiří Merta.

Růžička lasted only two championship matches in Ústí nad Labem. Now, for the first time in his coaching career, he is headed abroad, he reportedly traveled to Slovakia today to finalize the details of the contract.

In the meantime, his successor Jiří Merta will take over the Ústí manchaft at Friday’s training. “Jiří Merta is the coach in the right place,” CEO Miroslav Kanis said on the club’s website. “We have known each other for a long time and have worked together in the past. We will certainly try to make mutual cooperation beneficial to the A-team.”

Until now, Merta has mainly coached youth in the north of Bohemia, but in some seasons – still in Slovan’s first league era – he also appeared as an assistant in the A’s substitute. “I have been working in Slovan for the 26th season, I did not hesitate for a moment, because I have a positive relationship with the club and I wish to help the club,” reports Merta in an interview for slovanusti.cz.

“I have been working in Slovan for the 26th season, I did not hesitate for a moment, because I have a positive relationship with the club and I wish to help the club.”

He will make his debut in the role of head coach on Saturday against Most. “The team includes many players whom I coached: both in youth and senior hockey. I believe that our cooperation will work and we will perform well,” he adds.
