Giovanni Petrillo 1 September 2023

Coach Antimo Martino’s Ital Unieuro loses against Trieste with a score of 80 to 87 in the first match of the Bortoluzzi Memorial and will not be able to defend the tournament won last year. Without Xavier Johnson, who suffered a little annoyance during the warm-up, and Kadeem Allen, Martino relied on the Italian hard core, including young Michele Munari (almost 14 minutes on the pitch), and Edoardo Zilio in the rotations. At the end of a game with playing time inevitably dictated by intense preparation, Unieuro Forlì had to raise the white flag against Jamion Christian’s team, which saw Eli Brooks as the best scorer with 17 points.

At the ready and via Forlì moved forward by 7 lengths (9-2), then it was Christian’s team that took the reins of the game, dragged by Filloy, Candussi, Vildera, Ferrero, Deangeli and Brooks. Trieste reached the maximum advantage of 13 points at 48-61, but Forlì proved to have a tough character to scratch, impacting the 70 all. It was the shots from distance that tipped the scales in favor of the rivals. Fabio Valentini was the most prolific of the match, with 23 points, shooting with 55% from distance, while captain Daniele Cinciarini scored 16 points, with 33% from the arc.

“Overall it was a good test, where we certainly did a lot of good things – comments Martino -. Obviously there were also several things on which we could have done better, highlighting the synchronisms that still need to be perfected. But the team’s desire to never give up I really liked it and it was evident even when we went under in the score and rejoined the game more than once. From this challenge we collect information that will help us improve the things that have worked less and consolidate those that have already been tested. general condition is clearly not yet optimal, especially for some players”.
