Club Brugge Faces Besiktas in Conference League: Turkish Coach Senol Günes Warns Against Underestimating Belgian Rivals

This Thursday evening, Club Brugge enters the Conference League and will face Besiktas. The coach of the Turkish club, Senol Günes, does not underestimate the people of Bruges.

“Club Brugge is the team with the highest market value in the group. They also have a lot of young players,” he says.

To be honest, that’s not entirely accurate. According to Transfermarkt, the Besiktas squad has a market value of 128.15 million euros (32 players) while that of Club Brugge amounts to 121.45 million euros (29 players). Both teams are equal.

Despite Club Brugge’s fourth place in the league last season, Senol Günes does not want to underestimate the people of Bruges: “Last year they did not win the title in Belgium, but after the sporting decline of Anderlecht , they have dominated Belgian football. Moreover, they have produced many good players and have ardent fans, even if it is not comparable to ours.”

To conclude, the 71-year-old Turkish coach said that his team was ready for this match and that they were coming to Bruges to win.

Note that Club Brugge had already faced Besiktas during the 2014-2015 season in the Europa League. In Türkiye, the Blauw en Zwart won 1-3. On the return leg, they won 2-1.

Mistrust

Club Brugge will have to watch out for this Besiktas team. The latter counts in its ranks renowned players such as Alex Oxlade Chamberlain (ex-Liverpool), Ante Rebic (ex-AC Milan), Eric Bailly (ex-Manchester United) and Vincent Aboubakar (ex-Porto).
