Chris Jones Reaches One-Year Deal with Kansas City Chiefs

The Chris Jones saga is over.

The tackle has found common ground with the Kansas City Chiefs on a one-year deal.

Jones was still under contract for one season and no more years would have been added to that deal, according to the network’s Adam Schefter ESPN. Jones’ current contract would therefore have been renegotiated and the defensive player would have received several financial incentives to earn more money this season.

“Chris is a star player in this league, and over the last seven seasons, he has developed into a leader in the locker room,” said general manager Brett Veach. He was important to our success and during our Super Bowl championships. It was a priority to keep him in a Chiefs uniform. I would like to thank Chris and his representatives for their desire and patience in reaching an agreement with us. »

Jones has been away from the team for several weeks as a form of pressure as he tried to secure a long-term deal. Jones will instead have made a compromise to join the Chiefs and he will have to negotiate a new contract for 2024.

The Chiefs will face the Jaguars next Sunday, after losing their first game of the season to the Lions. Jones was absent from the game, as was star tight end Travis Kelce.

Aged 29, Jones will therefore allow the Chiefs to solidify their defense. Last season, Jones tied a career-high with 15.5 sacks and contributed to the Chiefs’ Super Bowl triumph over the Eagles.

Jones has made the Pro Bowl the last four seasons. He has 107 games of NFL experience, including 86 as a starter. He totaled 243 tackles and 65 quarterback sacks.
