Carreras, Grupo Saica and Repsol promote the use of biofuels |

Carreras Logistics Group, together with Saica and Repsol, promote the use of advanced biofuels with the launch, during this month of September, of the first phase of the project to use renewable fuels in its waste recovery and valorization operation in Madrid. A project that aims to study and assess the environmental improvements generated by the use of advanced biofuels.

The project, as reported in a press release, will be divided into two phases: “the first phase will be carried out for two months, in which we will use renewable fuels to be able to compare all the parameters referring to consumption and emissions generated in the Waste Recovery and Valorization operation that was created in 2016,” Carreras reported. Next, in a second phase, the data obtained will be analyzed and the feasibility of implementing the project will be studied.

An initiative towards environmental sustainability

The renewable fuels supplied by Repsol are liquid fuels generated from raw materials of renewable origin. The CO2 that is released during use is equal to that previously removed from the atmosphere, so they are zero emissions.

This project is an initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability by using advanced biofuels produced from different waste, such as agricultural and forestry waste or municipal waste, among others. This promotes the circular economy and favors the reuse of resources. Likewise, the burning or arrival of said waste in landfills where C02 and other greenhouse gases are also released is reduced.

The use of these advanced biofuels generates different advantages such as, for example, their compatibility with current combustion engine vehicles, the use of existing distribution and refueling infrastructure or the reduction of CO2 emissions quickly and cost-efficiently.

Previous pilot projects of Logistics Group Careers

Already in February of this same year, Carreras launched, together with Repsol, a renewable fuel pilot. With this, the comprehensive logistics operator continued to advance in the decarbonization of transportation with a new fuel that allows a reduction of up to 90% in emissions compared to conventional diesel. Furthermore, since 2015, Careras has been committed to sustainable fuels, forming part of one of the requirements of its vehicles and its entire fleet is currently prepared for the use of this fuel.
