The world number one Carlos Alcaraz had walked through rounds 1 and 2 in New York. In the third round, Daniel Evans was the first seeded player to wait for the Spaniard. Alcaraz was promptly challenged for the first time at this tournament – albeit only briefly. After winning two sets, the 20-year-old entered an unusual phase of weakness and had to give up the 3rd set 4:6. However, he quickly recovered from this minor setback. With 6:3 he won the 4th round and thus also the match. In the next round, Alcaraz meets Matteo Arnaldi (ITA/ATP 61), who surprisingly beat Cameron Norrie (GBR/ATP 16).
Didn’t get an ideal start to his third-round game Andrei Rublev. The Russian lost the first round 3:6 against Arthur Rinderknech, who was classified much worse. As a result, the 25-year-old got into the game better and prevailed in 4 sets after 2:34 hours. In the round of 16 Rublew meets the British Jack Draper (ATP 123).
