Dinamo Zagreb will do everything it can to bring Luka Modric back to Croatia next winter, chairman Vlatka Peras said in an interview with Index.hr. The single winner of the Ballon d’Or has an expiring contract with Real Madrid, which Zagreb would like to make use of.

“Of course I will call him,” says the chairman of the Croatian record champion. “He has an expiring contract, why wouldn’t Dinamo want him back?” Modric started his football career in the Croatian capital, where he played a total of 95 matches in the main squad. He scored 32 goals and 21 assists before leaving for Tottenham Hotspur in 2008 for 22 million euros.

“I can’t say I’m in constant contact with Modric, but I know his family well,” Peras continues. “It would make sense for him to end his career here at Dinamo. So why not try it? We will do everything we can to make it happen, but whether it will be enough remains to be seen.” Modric is now 38. Last summer, many Saudi Arabian clubs showed interest in his services, but he opted for a longer stay in Madrid.

Modric transferred to Real in 2012. In the Spanish capital, the Croatian midfielder became one of the best footballers of his generation. He won five Champions League titles with the Royal Dutch and became Spanish champion three times. Modric is also a 168-time Croatian international. He reached the final of the World Cup with his country in 2018. However, Croatia lost 4-2 against France.
