After the long selection of summer competitions, the Byzantine Archers bring 7 athletes to the “61st Italian Championships Targa Fitarco” which took place from 24 to 27 August in the medieval village of Serravezza in the province of Lucca. The best 800 Italian archers were present at the event, among which the names of various Olympic medalists and the entire national team stand out, divided into 5 categories (boys, students, juniors, seniors and masters) and 3 divisions with the presence, as well as the ‘recurve and compound bow, for the first time in outdoor also of the bare bow. The qualifications were held at the municipal stadium and the finals for the absolutes in the splendid setting of the gardens of the Palazzo Mediceo.
Well the Byzantines in the race who obtained excellent placements. The only one to get to the medal, with an excellent race and a splendid 3rd place in the AN women’s master class, is Angela Padovani with 539 points (270+269). First “pink” medal for the Byzantine archers at an Italian Targa championship, Padovani is constantly in the top positions of the rankings from the very beginning and grabs the bronze right on the last volley also conquering the right to access the individual absolute finals where, however, she loses from number 3 in the ranking Fabia Rovatti by 6-0. Again for bare archery: Matelda Miolo 6th with 478 points (250+228) in the junior category, Michele Baroncini 15th with 588 points (300+288) in the senior category, Marcello Tozzola Arco 6th with 593 points (294+299) and Simone Pizzi 20th with 564 (272+292) for the master category. For the compound division Riccardo Venturi 6th with 661 points (328+333) in the junior category. Tozzola also qualified with the Olympic bow, repeated position and score obtained for the AN: 6th at 593 points (297+296) even if with different partials. Giancarlo Casadio not classified individually but upon completion of the men’s master team he gets 222 points and allows the team to qualify 7th with 1379 points.
The naked archery men’s team made up of Tozzola, Baroncini and Pizzi also access the direct clashes for the absolute finals, which loses in the quarterfinals 6-2 against the Pontino arch club of Rome (Vasta, Cignitti, De Marni) a team that he will then win silver in the final. Avenge the defeat of the master team the mixed team, always bare bow, composed by Padovani and Tozzola who win an excellent absolute silver. Reached the quarterfinals with a peremptory 6-0 against the arch club Pontino (D’Alessandri-Vasta), they also pass in the semifinal against the archers Volpiano (Schettino-Berti) for 5-1 but they have the worst losing for 0-6 against the pair of archers of the Alps formed by Medico-Seimandi who win the gold.
