The Olympic Cup of the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (COPUR) will return this Saturday and Sunday to the Puerto Rico Convention Center in Miramar, San Juan. There will be 14 sports that will provide the general public with an eye-catching spectacle, and for the federations it will be an exhibition setting for the recruitment of new national talents.
“Last year we returned in style after seven years of not celebrating one of the most emblematic events for our Olympic Committee. It was a total success! This year we do it in September, because the traditional date of July coincided with our participation in the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023,” said the president of COPUR, Sara Rosario Vélez.
The multi-sport competition will feature the participation of children, youth and adult national team athletes in 14 disciplines, simultaneously: badminton, handball, 3 by 3 basketball, Baseball5boxing, fencing, gymnastics, judo, karate, weightlifting, Olympic wrestling, taekwondo, table tennis and archery.
“Every year attractive events continue to be added to the Olympic Cup. On this occasion it is the new modality of the Baseball5which has been in force since 2017 in the programming of the World Baseball and Softball Confederation,” announced the President of COPUR.

He Baseball5 It is an international sport organized by the World Baseball and Softball Confederation since 2017. The new five-on-five discipline only requires a rubber ball to play. The Puerto Rico Baseball Federation began the integration of the discipline last week with demonstration workshops of the new urban version of the sports of baseball and softball. The sport integrates rules from baseball and softball.
In addition, the athletes of the Special Olympics of Puerto Rico organization will be registered in the sports of rhythmic gymnastics, table tennis, 3 by 3 basketball and powerlifing. Boxing will have international participation from the countries of the Virgin Islands, Ecuador and Venezuela with athletes who will be stationed at Sixto Escobar until October.
