Belgium’s Thorgan Hazard Leaves Borussia Dortmund for RSC Anderlecht

Winger Thorgan Hazard is leaving Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund for good and moving to his home country of Belgium to RSC Anderlecht. The runner-up announced this late on Wednesday evening. Hazard (30) switched from Borussia Mönchengladbach to BVB in 2019 and was loaned to PSV Eindhoven in the second half of last season.

“We have had very open and honest talks with Thorgan over the past few weeks. In the short term, he still had the opportunity to make a change. It was clear to us that we would then not put any obstacles in his way,” said Dortmund’s sports director Sebastian Kehl.

After his return from the Netherlands, Hazard has only played once for BVB this season: on the first day of the game against 1. FC Köln (1-0), he came on as a substitute shortly before the end. Kicker reports a transfer fee of over four million euros, and Dortmund is also saving millions in salary. Four years ago, the club transferred 25 million euros to Gladbach for Hazard.

Since then, the Belgian international has made 123 competitive appearances for Dortmund (18 goals, 21 assists), and in 2021 he won the DFB Cup. However, Hazard could not fully live up to expectations.
