Belgium Secures Spot in 1/8th Finals with Victory over Switzerland

Belgium had already secured a ticket for the 1/8th finals with a strong performance against Estonia. Because it could no longer rise in its group, the match against scoreless Switzerland was actually superfluous.

Star player Sam Deroo therefore got some rest. This put even more pressure on the shoulders of Ferre Reggers, perhaps the star against the Estonians.

But against Switzerland things turned a little less for Reggers. Nevertheless, the Belgians were able to win the first set: 25-20.

When things went a bit more difficult in the second set, national coach Zanini took Jolan Cox off the bench for Reggers. That turned out to be the ideal medicine. Cox brought some extra spice and also finished at a high percentage.

The Swiss also did not seem to reach 20 points in the 3rd set, until it became unnecessarily exciting due to a late convulsion. Brilliant Jolan Cox was finally allowed to finish it.

Belgium thus closes the group stage with 2 victories in a row. On Sunday, the Red Dragons will have to outdo themselves against the mighty Poland, the vice world champion.
