► Rainer Bonhof (71) was naturalized in 1969 and was previously a Dutch citizen. With the DFB team, he was world champion in 1974 and European champion in 1972 and 1980.
► Paulo Rink (50) The Brazilian native was able to become naturalized in 1998 because his great-grandfather emigrated from Heidelberg in 1904. In the 2000 European Championship debacle, he played all three group games.
► Sean Dundee (50) Born in South Africa, naturalized in 1997, but only sat on the DFB bench once.
► Cacau (42) Also born in Brazil. Received the German passport in 2009 and took part in the 2010 World Cup.
Will Tel now be the next naturalized national player?
Firstly, he would have to want it himself. Secondly, according to FIFA rules, he could only be eligible to play for the DFB team in 2027.
The reason: Players who started living in the area of their desired association between their 10th and 18th birthdays must live there for at least five years in order to fulfill the conditions.
