Bayern CEO Dreesen takes responsibility for Thomas Tuchel

Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen takes on coach Thomas Tuchel after the end of the summer transfer period after his dream player João Palhinha from FC Fulham could not be signed by the German record champions on Friday.

“He (Tuchel, ed.) must now be a little more creative. That’s his job. I would like to remind you that we have often produced great talents in these situations with injuries or when players are not present. Alphonso Davies is an example when David Alaba was injured. Maybe it’s also an opportunity for young talents,” Dreesen told Sky TV.

“They are outstanding”

He still thinks “that our squad is first class. Of course we would have wished that we could have fulfilled the coach’s wish for a defensive six – with Joao Palhinha. A fantastic player, a good character. Sadly it did not work. But even without him we have an excellent cast. I don’t see any reason at all not to start the season with confidence,” said Dreesen.

On the other hand, Tuchel said again after the 2-1 win at Borussia Mönchengladbach: “We now have six defensive players. That’s sewn to the edge.”

Dreesen also defended that 2018 world champion Benjamin Pavard was handed over to Inter Milan just before the end of the transfer window. “We’re less defensive than we were last season. But I have to say quite clearly: Look at Pavard! He really wanted to leave. That had nothing to do with FC Bayern. He wanted to leave Germany,” said Dreesen.

Should FC Bayern start the season with a player “who doesn’t feel like playing at all? That doesn’t make any sense at all. We still have variability. Konrad Laimer also recently played at right back. It’s not like only Noussair Mazraoui has to play there,” said Dreesen.
