Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong (22) has to wait for his debut in the Dutch senior team.
Bonds coach Ronald Koeman (60) has not nominated the Leverkusen star for the international matches against Greece (Thursday, 8.45 p.m.) and in Ireland (Sunday, 8.45 p.m.) despite strong performances in the first games of the season.

It’s a return carriage because Frimpong had canceled in the summer from participating in the U21 European Championships in Georgia and Romania.
That too had a history: after taking part in the World Cup without a match, Frimpong was not called up by the new national coach Koeman for the international matches of the “Elftal” in the spring. At that time, Louis van Gaal’s successor had given Leverkusen’s lack of defensive work as a reason for not playing Frimpong. In a BILD interview at the time, Frimpong made it clear: “There are no considerations about playing for another country – it’s all about Holland for me. As I said, I’m working on my defensive game and I hope that one day it will work out and I can play for Oranje.”
Koeman now said: “We’re not happy with players dropping out for Jong Oranje. If you do that and think that you can play in the Dutch national team shortly afterwards, I don’t understand it. That will not do.”
Sports director informed Frimpong
Nigel de Jong (38), sports director of the Dutch association KNVB, informed Frimpong about the decision. The non-nomination can be seen “as a kind of punishment,” says Koeman.
How does Frimpong react to Koeman’s criticism?
“I will continue to work hard to be able to help each of my teams on the pitch,” assured the right-back on Tuesday afternoon when asked by BILD.
Instead of playing for Holland, Frimpong will play with Leverkusen in a friendly against regional league team Alemannia Aachen on Thursday (11 a.m., Ulrich Haberland Stadium).
