Despite all the euphoria surrounding Bayer Leverkusen, the whole club is still longingly waiting for one player: Striker Patrik Schick (27), the 24-goal scorer of the 2021/22 season.
Now there is great news from the Czech national player, which makes coach Xabi Alonsio (41) happy: After Schick had already resumed running training, BILD caught him on the pitch at the BayArena on Friday afternoon during his individual session.
Important: Schick is working with the ball again. The striker seemed very focused, but also in a good mood and relieved.

The comeback after his adductor operation at the end of June is getting closer. Schick makes unmistakable progress.
A few days ago, the Czech national coach Jaroslav Silhavy (61) said: “We spoke to Patrik directly in Germany at the weekend, he was in a positive mood and could start training again in three to four weeks.”
If the development process continues positively, Schick could actually become an alternative and reinforcement for Leverkusen again in October…

Bayer coach Xabi Alonso (41) does not want to give a date for a return: “I can’t say that. We have to be patient.” But Alonso emphasizes: “The most important thing is that Patrik feels better. It will be great news for us when he can play again. Having Patrik, Adam Hlozek and Victor Boniface available will be a tough decision for me, but that’s what I want.”
Alonso is happy when Schick’s time of suffering is over: “It was a long time for him, a long time for me. This injury was frustrating for Patrik. We need him, he’s dangerous in the penalty area. He’s a very important player. There is no doubt about its quality.”
► Piero Hincapie (21) will return faster than Schick after breaking his metatarsal. He could be back in the squad in Munich (September 15).
