National basketball coach Gordon Herbert and captain Dennis Schröder clashed violently during a break during the World Cup game against Slovenia. Schröder initially ignored the Canadian coach, who finally yelled at his superstar and grabbed his arm.

The sporting incentive was limited, since Germany and Slovenia (game is still running) had already qualified for the World Cup quarter-finals before the whistle kicked off. That’s not the only reason why no play, no throw caused a stir on Sunday, but also a violent dispute that broke out between national coach Gordon Herbert and captain Dennis Schröder during a break. They clashed violently.

The 29-year-old Schröder spoke very clearly to his buddy Daniel Theis in the first quarter and initially ignored the Canadian coach, who wanted to give instructions after 5:57 minutes played because of the significant deficit.

“Sit down,” Herbert yelled at Schröder several times on Sunday in Okinawa, Japan, and then grabbed his arm. But Schröder stopped and countered the words of the national coach: “Don’t talk to me like that.”

Young star Franz Wagner was missing again

Herbert initially left the captain on the bench after the heated time-out and brought the young Justus Hollatz into the game. Schröder and Theis, who have known each other for a long time and are considered friends, later hugged each other in the second quarter and spoke out. The crash ultimately turned the game around. The German team got better, caught up a deficit before the break and even took the lead.

The German selection again had to do without young star Franz Wagner, who missed the fourth game in a row due to his ankle injury. The 22-year-old twisted his ankle in the opening game against Japan (81:63) and has had to take a break ever since.
