Barcelona only with a draw in Mallorca

Spain’s football champions FC Barcelona did not get beyond a draw at RCD Mallorca on Tuesday evening. With the German national players Marc-André ter Stegen and Ilkay Gündogan, but without Robert Lewandowski in the starting line-up, the league leaders did not make enough of their superiority and had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

After a fatal bad pass from Ter Stegen, Mallorca took the lead early on through Vedat Muriqi (8th). The interim equalizer by Raphinha (41′) didn’t last long, as Abdon Prats (45’+3) was there after an extended goal kick and made it 2-1. Ter Stegen didn’t look good again.

López scores the equalizer

The introduction of Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal after an hour brought momentum into the game, which Fermín López, who was also substitute, used to equalize.

Barcelona’s next opponent, Europa League winners FC Sevilla, had previously won against bottom team UD Almeria 5-1 and made the jump from the bottom of the table to midfield. Former Berliner Dodi Lukebakio was also among the scorers.

Due to the mistake on the holiday island, Barça could lose their lead in the table this Wednesday. FC Girona, also from Catalonia, who are surprisingly in second place in the Spanish league after six match days, will face Villarreal FC in the evening (7 p.m. live on DAZN) and could take the top spot as they are only one point behind Barcelona .

Cup winners Real Madrid could also overtake them. The Royals are two points behind Barça and are likely to be desperate for redemption after their defeat in the city derby against Atlético. The team around the German national players Antonio Rüdiger and Toni Kroos welcomes UD Las Palmas (7 p.m. live on DAZN).
