Bağcılar Municipality Hosts Successful 3×3 Basketball Tournament with International Teams

ISTANBUL, (DHA) – 3×3 Basketball Tournament hosted by Bağcılar Municipality ended with the closing ceremony. Awards were given to the winners of the tournament, where 32 teams competed for the championship. In the final competition, Dits Saalouis team came first and Alsancak Gym Premium team came second.

The 3×3 Basketball Tournament, organized by Bağcılar Municipality and included in the official calendar of FIBA, was held between 9-10 September 2023. In the organization held in Bağcılar Square, 32 teams, 16 international, 12 local and 4 disabled, took to the field.

Bağcılar District Governor Abdullah Uçgun, Bağcılar Mayor Abdullah Özdemir, basketball player Zaza Enden, a former player of Fenerbahçe and the national team, and many citizens attended the closing program of the tournament.

In his speech about the tournament, Bağcılar Mayor Abdullah Özdemir said, “Let us emphasize that Bağcılar has a very young population. There are nearly 300 thousand young people in our district. As one of the youngest mayors of Istanbul, I understand our young people. An important and international organization. It is an organization in which teams from many countries participate and is included in FIBA’s program. We aim to increase our youth’s interest in sports. In this context, we are bringing important names to our district. We have been carrying out intensive youth work since the day we took office. We always maintain the statement that we will be the mayor of young people and children. We provide free training in many branches in our summer sports schools. We want to spread sports to the whole society through such organizations. Our disabled basketball team competes in the Super League. In this sense, we want to establish the motto of Bağcılar, the city of sports. We invite our young people to get involved in sports. Sports have an important place in the academic and personal development of young people. We will strive to continue and increase these organizations. “We are very excited and we aim to bring our country’s important athletes out of Bağcılar in the future by making our young people share this excitement,” he said.

“OUR COMPETITORS ARE NATIONAL NATIONALS IN THEIR OWN COUNTRIES”

Celal Bayar University lecturer Kıvanç Dinler, one of the athletes participating in the tournament, said that his team reached the finals and that he was happy about this, and added: “Most of the players against us are national names in their own countries. We are very proud to have reached the final. I congratulate Bağcılar Municipality for organizing such an elite organization. We go on world tours with our team and we rarely come across this kind of quality organization. The environment gives great pleasure to the athletes and they play at a high quality. “It is a tournament with great pleasure for the spectators,” he said.

Aykut Kolcular, one of the athletes participating in the tournament, said: “We hope to win in the final. As all athletes, we have waited a long time for this tournament. “Bağcılar Municipality provided opportunities for athletes,” he said.

COLORFUL IMAGES WERE EXPERIENCED

Particularly young people showed great interest in the event on the covered platform with tribunes on three sides. For two days, the square witnessed colorful scenes as local and foreign basketball players demonstrated their skills. During the match breaks, foreign athletes played accompanied by music. The audience also had fun moments.

AWARDS WERE GIVEN TO THE SUCCESSFUL ATHLETES

Medals and cash awards were given to successful athletes in the tournament, which was held to strengthen communication among young people and ensure their socialization.
