Atacameños Schoolchildren Shine at National Finals of School Sports Games

Isidora Alfaro, from the Mercedes Fritis High School, obtained first place in the category, +64 kilos in the National Finals of the School Sports Games of the Ministry of Sports and the National Institute of Sports.

A great debut was made by the Atacameños schoolchildren at the beginning of the National Finals of the School Sports Games of the Ministry of Sports and the National Institute of Sports that take place in the Biobío region until September 16, by obtaining 1 gold medal , 1 silver and 2 bronzes in the disciplines of judo and cycling.

This was reported by the Sports Seremi, Arling Guzmán, who congratulated the delegation of 164 athletes, technicians and delegates who represent us in the south of the country in the communes of Santa Bárbara, Talcahuano, Concepción, San Pedro de la Paz, Los Ángeles , Mulchen, Colonel and Arauco:

“As the Government of President Gabriel Boric we are very happy with the performance of our athletes, who have shown that they have given their best to represent us in the best way as a region. Once again, I am grateful for the support of the families and their educational establishments, for supporting these young people, who have found in sport a way of life and growth that will contribute to their development as people”, indicated the Regional Ministerial Secretary.

Results

The discipline of judo obtained a total of 3 medals in these Games, the main one being the gold medal for Isidora Alfaro, from the Liceo Mercedes Fritis, who obtained first place in the category, +64 kilos. This result allows the under 14 athlete to be part of the XXVII South American School Games that will be held in the renovated National Stadium Park, which will immediately open its doors once the curtain falls on the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games, the main milestone of the sport in the history of our country.

Regarding this result, Isidora Alfaro said: “I am very happy, since since I started practicing this discipline, from minute 1 I had all the support of my sensei, my colleagues and family. This medal means effort, dedication, perseverance, discipline, which my sensei has instilled in me and in all my colleagues, teaching us from defeats to victories. Thank you very much for all the support and I will give my all on the tatami, for the South American School I will prepare to bring gold to my commune and region”.

Also in the discipline of judo, played in the Arauco commune, the young cop from the Atacama Catholic High School, Sergio Carvajal, won a silver medal, 44 kilos category. Deyvi Valenzuela from the Jorge Alessandri High School in Tierra Amarilla also stood out, winning the bronze medal, 48 kilos category.

Likewise, the Tierramarilla cyclist from the Víctor Sánchez Cabañas School, Maximiliano Fernández, obtained a bronze medal for his third place in the Gran Fondo event held in Arauco. In the same test, Martina López, also from the Víctor Sánchez School, was eighth.
