US-Open-Finalistin Aryna Sabalenka represents the number 1 in the women’s world in tennis for the first time.

With Iga Swiatek’s exit in the round of 16, the change of power was clear – and deserved. Sabalenka had already led the WTA race all year, starting with her title in Adelaide. Which she followed up with her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.
In general, the Belarusian has been a sign of consistency throughout the year; in addition to her three titles, she also reached the semi-finals at the French Open and Wimbledon and is now in the final in New York.
Coco Gauff is number 3 for the first time
Sabalenka currently leads the WTA rankings with 9,266 points, ahead of Swiatek with 8,195 points. US Open winner Coco Gauff follows a little behind with 6,165 points. With her victory in Flushing Meadows, Gauff moved up three places, and with third place she is higher than ever before. Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova also has a new career high of 6th place, thanks to her quarterfinals in New York. Semi-finalist Karolina Muchova climbs to 8th place, also a personal best.
Caroline Garcia, on the other hand, who was in the final last year, slipped to 10th place. The Frenchwoman still has some points to defend in 2023, especially from her victory at the WTA Finals in 2022.
Lin Zhu (35th place), Yinhu Wang (39th place), Peyton Stearns (44th place) and Sara Sorribes Tormo (51st place) also made big jumps in the ranking. Young star Mirra Andreeva is also continuing to climb and is now ranked 57th.
Tatjana Maria remains number 1
From a German perspective, Tatjana Maria is at the top in 48th place, ahead of Tamara Korpatsch in 78th place and Anna-Lena Friedsam in 94th place.
Julia Grabher is holding the flag high for Austria with 73rd place, even if she has fallen 19 places. Worse still: Grabher is injured and will be out for the rest of the year.
Double ranking: Siegemund with high
In doubles, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula are the new number 1 – even though the US duo was eliminated in the quarterfinals. Finalist Laura Siegemund climbs eleven places to 12th place – a new personal best!
