Unexpected news shook the world of Argentine tennis this Friday night. Guido Pella from Bahia announced his retirement from professional tennis, at the age of 33, and after 19 seasons in the top circuit.

“With an enormous mix of sensations and a very great relief, I come to say that I decided to put an end to my career as a professional tennis player,” Guido began the text with which he communicated, on his Instagram account, his decision to no longer dedicate himself to tennis. The news produced an immediate reaction from a large number of fans of the yellow ball sport. And not only in Argentina, but also in other parts of the world. Pella, who made his professional debut in 2005, was part of the Argentine team that became Davis Cup champion in 2016.

In that competition, the man from Bahia contributed two wins in singles and one in doubles. The victory obtained against Daniel Evans, in the series against Great Britain, in the semifinals, is widely remembered.
