Some fans also took to the barricades and expressed their displeasure on social media. One horrified user wrote: “This is one of the worst scandalous public appearances I can imagine… such a useless and tyrannical activity that I can’t believe it’s still legal in 2023.” Or: “Damn Carlitos, really?”
Alcaraz had recently failed in the semi-finals of the US Open against Russian Daniil Medvedev and thus missed defending his title. Shortly afterwards he traveled back to his homeland and showed up at the event.
