Alizé Cornet is in the news today: she has become the first player on the circuit to give up playing tournaments in China. The Frenchwoman will drop out of the top-100, at 33 years old, after deciding that her season will resume in October, citing several reasons for not going to the Asian country. Among them, of course, her firm convictions after what happened last year with Shuai Pengfrom whom we have not heard from for many months. “Standing firm to my convictions and cautious regarding my health, I have decided that I will not play in China this year. My season will therefore resume in October. See you soon”, read his last post on Instagram. Complicated situation for Alizé, who is the only player on the circuit to express her refusal to travel to China.
–Total respect for Alizé Cornet who has not forgotten the Peng Shuai affair: “True to my convictions and concerned about my health, I have decided not to play in China this year.”
A decision with serious consequences which will take it out of the top 100.
At 33 years old.
