Alexander Zverev Defeats Dominic Thiem in Thrilling US Open Final After Djokovic’s Disqualification

On September 13, 2020, the German Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem from Austria faced each other in the final of the US Open. It was a final that only a few had bet on before the start of the tournament and was also brought about by the disqualification of the Serbian Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.

Thiem went into the final in New York as the favorite. But Zverev got off to a much better start, winning the first two sets 6:2 and 6:4.

But then the Austrian slowly got stronger while the German weakened. Rounds three and four went to Thiem 6:3 and 6:4 respectively.

Set five was finally decided in a tiebreak. And here the Viennese had the better end for himself and won the decider 8:6.

“I wish we could have two winners today. We deserve it. You once told me that I would win the Grand Slam title. You will 100 percent do it too, you will make your family and your fans proud “You’ll bring it home one day,” Thiem praised his opponent after the end of the match.
