Ajax starts De Klassieker at home against Feyenoord on Sunday afternoon with Silvano Vos. Captain Steven Bergwijn is missing, while Yankuba Minteh takes over for the injured Luka Ivanusec for the visitors.
For eighteen-year-old Vos it is his first starting position at Ajax. The midfielder came on for Benjamin Tahirovic after half-time in the midweek Europa League match against Olympique Marseille (3-3). In the final phase he received his second yellow card. Nevertheless, trainer Maurice Steijn prefers the Amsterdammer to Tahirovic against Feyenoord.
Bergwijn is missing from Ajax due to an infected wisdom tooth, which he already suffered from in the match against Marseille. Carlos Forbs now starts as a left winger and Steven Berghuis starts on the right flank. This means there is a place available in midfield for Branco van den Boomen.
At Feyenoord, trainer Arne Slot chooses the Gambian Minteh as a replacement for Ivanusec. The Croatian suffered an ankle injury in the Champions League match against Celtic (2-0 win) on Tuesday and has been out for several weeks. Santiago Giménez missed that game due to suspension, but is logically a starter again against Ajax.
Gernot Trauner is also fit enough to start, after he had to miss Friday’s Feyenoord training due to illness. Ayase Ueda is back at Feyenoord after a lightning recovery from a muscle injury. He will start on the bench in Amsterdam.
Feyenoord seems to be the favorite in Amsterdam
Feyenoord seems to be the favorite in advance for a victory in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. The reigning national champion has been running at full speed for weeks and has won the past four matches. Slot’s team scored no fewer than nineteen times.
How different is it at Ajax, where there is an administrative crisis and things are anything but smooth on the field. Steijn’s team has not won its last four matches and has dropped to thirteenth place in the Eredivisie.
Last season Feyenoord won 2-3 in Amsterdam, thanks to goals from Giménez, Sebastian Szymanski and Lutsharel Geertruida. The Rotterdammers can triumph in the capital for the second time in a row for the first time since 1987.
The Classic in the Johan Cruijff ArenA starts on Sunday at 2:30 PM. Referee Serdar Gözübüyük must keep the match on track.
