Aaron Ramsdale or David Raya? Mikel Arteta was even advised by a former Arsenal goalkeeper who wasn’t very successful

According to him, Arteta should not try to bench Ramsdale and use David Raya.

Arsenal recruited Raya on loan. Ramsdale was briefly shifted by Raya. This policy received criticism

WHAT HAPPENED? Mikel Arteta recently opted to keep England international Aaron Ramsdale for new signing David Raya against Everton and PSV Eindhoven, which has sparked controversy considering Ramsdale was one of the first names on Arsenal’s team sheet for their 2022/23 campaign.

The Spaniard made his Premier League debut for the Gunners against the Toffees and started their first group stage match in the UEFA Champions League against Dutch side PSV.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno criticized the Gunners boss for doing this.

MUST KEEP THE RELATIONSHIP: “You don’t build relationships, it takes time,” Leno told The Times. “As a manager, I would never change my goalkeeper, saying, ‘Oh, today I need a goalkeeper who is good with his feet, or who is good in crosses,’ or, ‘Today I need a good goalkeeper because we’re playing against Man. City and they’re going to have ten shots or more.’ I would never do that.”

RELAXING RAMSDALE REST: Arteta has since praised Ramsdale for his reaction to being benched, while insisting he has not yet chosen who will start in Arsenal’s upcoming North London derby clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

He said: “He [Ramsdale] very supportive and very good on the pitch and that’s what I expect from every player because when you’re on the pitch, there are others who aren’t. So, this goes both ways. So far he’s been really good.”
