AA Gent’s Strong Transfer Period: Securing Key Players and Making Strategic Acquisitions

AA Gent has had a very solid transfer period. The Buffaloes made a number of targeted acquisitions and managed to keep the majority of the strong players on board. Although there was one regular who opted for a switch to another Belgian club.

Ghent managed to strengthen itself in various positions and a number of newcomers, such as Tsuyoshi Watanabe and Archie Brown, have now become permanent strongholds. But possibly even more important: the club kept royal couple Gift Orban – Hugo Cuypers on board.

However, the two strikers could count on a lot of interest. But the Buffaloes showed themselves to be able to ignore several million-dollar offers and can count on their services for at least another six months. On the other hand, Alessio Castro Montes was said goodbye.

The Limburg winger was a permanent fixture in the selection in recent seasons and was usually in the starting line-up. But Castro-Montes had been setting his sights on a new step for some time. And because a foreign adventure failed to materialize, he eventually ended up at Union SG.

However, even more teams showed interest. Castro-Montes himself stated that Club Brugge was also one of the options. According to the player, manager Michel Louwagie was also willing to do business with the rival from West Flanders.

AA Gent denies

But that turns out not to be entirely correct. Opposite The newspapaer after all, the Buffaloes came up with an official response to the reports. “Club Brugge’s interest never reached KAA Gent,” it said. “The fact that there was no solution obviously caused uncertainty because every club wants a budget and player core in balance. But we emphasize that Alessio has been a valuable player for Ghent and we wish him good luck at Union.”
