7th International Bayer Judo Cup: Bringing Athletes Together Across Borders

For this purpose, the athletics hall at the Fritz Jacobi facility in Manfort is transformed into a large judo hall with five mats on which fighting takes place from morning to evening on Saturday and Sunday. Sport and tournament events connect people across national borders – that is one of the main motivations for the head of the judo department at TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Michael Weyres. “Young people need a balance between school, studies and their everyday lives. Judo helps them to really work out and clear their heads. Such a big tournament is THE highlight of the sporting year for many judokas from our club.”

TSV judoka and youth national fighter, Svevarike Konrad, has a chance of winning gold in the U17 women’s category up to 63 kg. She is one of a total of 32 judoka who take to the mat for the home club, TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Volunteering delivers top performance!
Trainers, referees, organizers and parents as well as athletes who set up mats, bake cakes, do counter duty, ensure everything runs smoothly, lead the fights and, last but not least, support the athletes. Countless volunteers support the competition weekend, which begins with construction on Friday and runs until late Sunday evening, so that at the end of each fight you can hear: Ippon – victory and end of the fight.
