Fortuna Düsseldorf comes back from falling behind against Hannover 96 and remains at the top of the 2nd Bundesliga. The guests now have the best offense in the league.

No change at the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga: Hannover 96 missed out on winning the top game at Fortuna Düsseldorf, but after the 1-1 (0-1) draw on Sunday (September 24th, 2023), they have the best offense in the league. Coach Stefan Leitl’s team gave up a lead in Düsseldorf and are now in sixth place with 12 points after three games without defeat.

Goal scorer Cedric Teuchert (7th) gave the Hanoverians the lead with his seventh goal of the season, Christos Tzolis (59th, penalty kick according to video evidence) equalized for the hosts. The Düsseldorf team maintained first place with their fourth game without defeat in a row.

Although Düsseldorf kept up well in terms of play, Hanover had the better chances. New signing Marcel Halstenberg dribbled up the Fortuna chain early on and found the right moment to pass to Teuchert, who gave goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier no chance. Shortly before the break, Kastenmeier saved his team from falling further behind. In the duel with Teuchert (45th + 2), the goalkeeper made a strong save.

After the break, Düsseldorf came out of the locker room with a lot of pressure – and the effort quickly paid off. When Hannover’s Jannik Dehm brought down Tzolis in the penalty area, referee Florian Lechner decided on a penalty according to the video images. Tzolis stepped up and converted safely. The Fortuna now ran relentlessly. 2014 world champion Ron-Robert Zieler saved his team with a brilliant save after a long-range shot from Jordy de Wijs (66th).
