Yenny de la Guarda: The Only Female Referee from Southern Chile to Participate in the Pan American Games

Yenny de la Guarda, a prominent national judoka, prepares for her next challenge, one that has her very excited.

Recently, the native of San Pedro de la Paz was called to participate in the next Pan American Games, to be held in Santiago de Chile.

The discipline coach is also the only referee, female or male, from Santiago to Magallanes, who will be present at the continental event.

in dialogue with Page 7the athlete acknowledged that she received the news with “joy, great responsibility and commitment.”

“To be the only referee from southern Chile called to participate in the Pan American Games It is an honor, which I receive with great humility”he added.

Yenny clarified that the Chilean Judo Federation belongs to the International Judo Federation, so there is only one regulation.

“It is of an international nature, so I must study it and manage it very well,” he emphasized.

From competition to training future talents

De la Guarda began in the activity at the age of 13, initially competing, to later become a coach and later a federated referee, being recognized by the Chilean Judo Federation.

Currently, with more than 20 years of experience, he heads the Guarda Judo Club, where he has students from 9 to 63 years old, whom he trains at the Ester Roa Rebolledo Stadium, in Concepción.

“The objective is to spread judo here and why not dream or think about having the school in Concepción, in San Pedro de la Paz, and after they become intercommunal,” he said.

“The idea is to be able to move forward and take judo to other places. Martial discipline is important not only in the sports field, but also in the training field, to lead people to be better citizens ”, he stressed.
