World Athletics Championships: injured, Renaud Lavillenie withdraws, Mouhamadou Fall selected for the 100m

On the flank for many months due to a hamstring injury at the start of the season, Renaud Lavillenie was once again caught up in his body, and will not be able to participate in the World Championships in Budapest (August 19-27) . Author of a zero point at the French Championships, the Frenchman announced the news on his social networks.

“The challenge of wanting to participate in the World Championships despite months off will unfortunately not be successful,” he wrote. My body does not allow me to jump in Budapest in good conditions with the return of pain in the tendon of the hamstrings and I therefore choose to forfeit to my greatest regret. »

The season of the 2012 Olympic champion is therefore over. He will now focus on next year with the Paris Olympics in sight. “I will take the time to recharge the physical and mental batteries in order to prepare for 2024 and its deadlines in the best conditions,” said Renaud Lavillenie.

Seven additional selections, including Mouhamadou Fall

Despite this package, the France team will still be larger than expected. Seven new French athletes have been selected by invitation from World Athletics, the international federation. Heptathletes Léonie Cambours, Esther Conde-Thurpin and Auriana Lazraq-Khlass, walker Pauline Stey (20 km walk), pole vaulter Ninon Chapelle and shot putter Fred Moudani-Likibi join the French team led by decathlete Kevin Mayer.

Sprinter Mouhamadou Fall, already scheduled for the 4x100m relay, now also has a place in the 100m individual. The French straight-line champion was released three weeks ago after risking a suspension for failing to fulfill his anti-doping whereabouts obligations. The Blues are thus 78 (56 for individual events) for the major annual athletics competition, one year before the Paris Olympics.
