Sarina Wiegman has been named European coach of the year for women. This was announced at the UEFA gala, where the draw for the group stage of the Champions League was also made.
After receiving the prize, Wiegman discussed the situation surrounding Spanish federation president Luis Rubiales, who gave Jennifer Hermoso a kiss on the mouth after Spain won the World Cup final.
“There is still a long way to go in football, and in society. I dedicate this award to the Spanish team, who played fantastically and enjoyed by all.”
Lost World Cup final
Last summer, Wiegman lost 1-0 to Spain in the final of the World Cup with the English national team. Four years ago she also reached the World Cup final with the Orange squad.
Wiegman did win the first edition of the Women’s Finalissima in June, the match between the winner of the European Championship (England) and the South American championship (Brazil).
