Voneš was thirteenth in the scratch at the World Track and Field Championships, the sprinters were two tenths short of advancing – ČT sport – Czech Television

Voneš finished only in the worse half of the results list out of 24 starters. Twenty-three-year-old Tidball finished ahead of Japanese Kazushige Kuboki and Belgian Tuur Dens for the first major title of his career.

“It’s obviously a dream come true. I’ve always watched the big races. And now I’m a world champion myself,” Tidball rejoiced in an interview with the International Cycling Union (UCI) website.

The 26-year-old Dygert, who had a fall during the road time trial at the World Championships three years ago and considered quitting cycling after persistent health problems, proved that she is back in her best form.

In the race for gold, she overtook defending champion Franziska Brausse from Germany and claimed her fourth triumph in the individual pursuit after 2017, 2018 and 2020.

In the team sprint, the German women confirmed that the track at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome is very fast and favors record times. Pauline Grabosch, Emma Hinze and Lea Friedrich clocked 45.848, with the previous best being 45.967 from last October, also held by the Germans.

The very first day of the championship of all cycling disciplines except cyclocross brought a huge disappointment for the British in addition to Tidball’s gold.

Charlie Tanfield’s fall in the team fighter qualification ended any hope of a possible defense of the gold from Montigny. Tanfield was not even able to get into the repair drive and headed to the hospital for an examination.

The Czechs were also unlucky. In the team sprint qualification, they took 11th place after technical difficulties. The trio consisting of Matěj Bohuslávek, Martin Čechman and Dominik Topinka finished only two tenths of a second behind eighth-ranked China, who advanced last.

“In our first start, Martin Čechman broke the pedal and fell, and Matěj Bohuslávek completed one lap. After that, we were given time to recover and we also got a second start attempt. Unfortunately, the operator of the starting device did not complete one part and this caused Martin Bohuslávek to lose a lot at the start The result is that we didn’t manage to finish eighth,” said the disappointed coach Petr Klimeš.

“It was just an unlucky day, I feel disappointed, as do the boys. The boys had it in their legs today, they were not far from the eight, but… We didn’t make it ourselves. And unfortunately, it’s also the lost Olympic points that we lost Klimeš added.
