Vondrousova ends Wozniacki’s dream in her return in Montreal

MADRID, 10 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Czech Marketa Vondrousova beat the Danish Caroline Wozniacki this Wednesday (6-2, 7-5) in the second round of the Montreal tournament, the sixth WTA 1000 of the season, ending the return to the slopes of the Odense player after three years away from them.

The 2018 Australian Open winner and former world number 1 returned with a comfortable first-round win against Australian Kimberly Birrell, but she couldn’t beat the recent Wimbledon winner and one of the fittest players on the circuit, although she was able to to get into a match in which he lost 6-2 and 3-0 and service from his rival.

Wozniacki, who was playing in Montreal with an invitation, announced last June his return to the circuit with an eye on the US Open, the fourth Grand Slam of the year, which starts on August 28 in New York (United States) and to the one who has declared that he is not “so far” from where he wants to be.
