Volleyball: Les Bleues sign a victory of character against Spain at the Euro

The metamorphosis of the French volleyball team continues. After a victory in the Challenger Cup, last July, which marked their change of dimension since the arrival of the Belgian Emile Rousseaux on the bench, the Bleues continue to progress in EuroVolley, strong from their place of 17th nation in the world. This competition allows them to rub shoulders with the best European nations, and, for the moment, they are successful.

Helena Cazaute’s teammates had won their first match against Estonia, one of the host countries of the competition, in three sets and 1h20 of match (25-8, 25-19, 25-21). Against Spain, it was more complicated, but the French finally won in five sets (22-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-17, 15-10).

Next meeting Sunday against Finland

Overall, the game was hotly contested, between aggressive Spaniards and more creative French. Les Bleues lost the first round of the game but did not let themselves be overwhelmed. They reacted by winning the second, before conceding the next, but in the first four sets scored more points than their opponents despite an equal number of sets won.

It was therefore necessary to play this last round, after more than two hours spent in this desperately empty stadium in Tallinn, Estonia, where France will play all their Pool D matches. It was easily won 15-10 by the team of France, who signs an important victory there before facing Finland, 39th nation in the world, this Sunday at 3 p.m.
