Two people were injured in a brawl in the Swedish capital Stockholm this afternoon. One of them is a fan of football club FC Twente from Enschede, reports RTV East.

Twente will play against Hammarby IF in Sweden tomorrow. Things got out of hand last week around the duel in Enschede against that club. Especially after the match things went wrong and riots broke out. It was also restless outside the stadium for a long time. Ten people were arrested and a Swedish fan fell from the stands and was injured.

The Swedish police report in a statement that an argument broke out this afternoon in a shopping street in the Södermalm district. Two were injured as a result. According to local media it was about a quarrel between supporters of Twente and Hammarby. The Aftonbladet newspaper speaks of “football-related violence”.

RTV Oost reports based on an eyewitness that the hard core of Hammarby “hit” the Dutch this afternoon and that fans call on each other to be careful.

‘Smashed on the Dutch’

A spokesman for the Swedish police tells NOS that it cannot confirm that Dutch people were involved and that it concerns football-related violence. One of the injured has been taken to hospital, the spokeswoman said.

“We are investigating what happened there,” she says. By the time the police arrived at the scene, the argument had already ended. Some would have left the place in a car.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that some requests for help have been submitted to the embassy in Sweden by Dutch people there. But the spokesperson cannot say anything about this because of privacy.

No cards out

The Enschede football club decided on Monday not to issue away cards and sponsor cards for tomorrow’s match against Hammarby IF, due to the security situation. 1500 fans had bought a ticket, but “due to new information about the security situation” their ticket is no longer valid.

It is unknown how many FC Twente supporters traveled to Stockholm on their own. The regional newspaper Tubantia talks about hundreds of fans.
