Max Verstappen will be chasing a record from pole position at the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday. The Dutchman can book a victory for the ninth time in a row at his home race in Zandvoort and thus equal Sebastian Vettel’s record.

The 25-year-old Verstappen does this under the watchful eye of about 110,000 spectators, who often come to the circuit in the North Holland seaside resort by bicycle or train. According to the organization, 98 percent of visitors visit the race in a sustainable way, making it the most environmentally friendly Grand Prix in the world.

Verstappen, who became the youngest Formula 1 debutant ever at the age of seventeen in 2015, is having his best season ever in the premier class. The Limburger, who became champion in 2021 and 2022, has his third world title up for grabs and has won all races since the Miami Grand Prix at the beginning of May.

Only four-time world champion Vettel managed to achieve such a series. In 2013, the German, who, just like Verstappen, now drove for Red Bull in that year, won nine Grands Prix in a row.

Verstappen has been unapproachable since returning to GP Netherlands

Verstappen has been unapproachable in Zandvoort since the return of the Dutch Grand Prix in 2021. The Red Bull driver won both editions after setting the fastest time in qualifying.

It was the icing on the cake for the organization, which sells the Grand Prix as a racing festival. As with previous editions, this weekend, in addition to races in Formula 1 and Formula 2, various music performances are on the program. For example, folk singers Tino Martin and Marco Schuitenmaker performed on Saturday. On Sunday, Flemming and DJ La Fuente, among others, will entertain the audience.

Before the Grand Prix there is a role for André Rieu. Fifteen minutes before the start, he will perform the Wilhelmus on the Zandvoort straight with his Johann Strauss Orchestra. The Grand Prix of the Netherlands starts at 3 p.m.
