USA Dominates Group Stage at Basketball World Cup with Resounding Victory

Top favorite USA finished the group stage of the Basketball World Cup in Asia with a resounding victory.

The five-time world champion easily defeated Jordan in Manila/Philippines 110:62 (62:33) and celebrated the third win in the third game. For the intermediate round, the selection that started without the really big superstars had already qualified beforehand.

The top scorer was Anthony Edwards from the NBA team Minnesota Timberwolves with 22 points. The game was already decided at half-time, after which the USA steadily increased their lead.

But that was not enough for the highest victory in World Cup history: In 1974, the then Soviet Union defeated the Central African Republic 140:48, and the USA’s highest World Cup victory is still the 146:67 against South Korea in 1990.

The United States finished seventh at the 2019 World Cup in China after triumphs in 2010 and 2014.

With head coach Steve Kerr from the Golden State Warriors, revenge should now succeed. The USA started with victories against New Zealand (99:72) and Greece (109:81).
